If you’re anything like us, you’ve replaced the nightclub scene with bottomless Bloody Mary brunches, you’re finally paying bills like a champ (most of them, anyway!), and you’re currently living through the Decade of the Weddings.
Yes, we’ve finally reached the age when friends from high school, college, and adulting all suddenly seem to be getting married at the same time. While this means saying goodbye to all of those free summer weekends, it also means that you and your friends are getting more mail now than ever before! So, when it’s time for your wedding, how do you make your invitations stand out from the rest?
Clear the clutter with these proven tips to make your wedding invitations POP!
1. COLOR ME BAD
Out with the blush, cream and mint, and in with the bold colors that can’t help but attract attention! Lots of bright colors aren’t necessary, but consider adding a little accent pop with a fun RSVP envelope, belly band or envelope liner. A peek of unique color keeps your wedding suite fresh and interesting – over the years we’ve fallen in love with chartreuse, rust, yellow, forest green, mauve.
This is no secret – upgrade to letterpress! The look and feel of letterpress invitations will wow your guests and is 100% worth the investment. If you’re looking to keep your costs down, consider a combo – we recommend letterpressing the save-the-dates and invitations and digitally printing all the accompanying pieces. Use the same paper stock for all of your pieces and they’ll seamlessly match between letterpress and digital! We use Crane’s Lettra as our house paper and we absolutely love it.
3. MAKE IT PERSONAL
Your friends and family want to see you in your invitations! Your invitations set the tone for everything that follows, so make it personal. We love designing custom monograms featuring a favorite pet, or adding an envelope liner using a custom map.
Where did you meet? What are some of your favorite things? LOVE hiking or maps or crossfit or craft beer? Think about those special parts of your relationship that make it uniquely yours, and they can be inserted into your suite. Make your guests think, “This invitation is SO them!”
4. DECORATIVE PAPER
Paper on paper on paper! The more paper you add, the more depth your suite has. Consider adding decorative paper as a belly band, backer or envelope liner. We love browsing beautiful options from Paper Source in their fine papers section, and they consistently update their selection based on what’s trending or the season.
5. BE UNEXPECTED
At HP!, we love the unexpected things. One of our favorite invitation designs featured a special secret: if you lined up all the pieces just right, the illustrations on each piece were all connected! Of course, not all the guests would figure it out, but what a fun surprise for those who did.
Whether it’s an interesting illustration, a uniquely placed instruction, or a textural experience, get creative with your layout and design and throw in a touch of the unexpected.
Standing out among the wedding crowd can be challenging, but thinking bold and getting creative is what we do best! Our clients constantly tell us that they get calls and texts from guests gushing about their unique invitations – and that’s our goal with every invitation suite we print.
